Joy - When Nomen Est Omen

The new show of Swiss artist Sylvie Fleury is named "Joy" - and what a joy it was last night, a real family-and-friends affair.

The gallery, "Karma International" is located in a tasteful and softly gentrified, but still charming quarter of Zurich´s Western area. The two women, who run it, Marina Olsen and Karolina Dankow created their kind of esoteric name by combining both their first names - and adding a little cosmopolitan flair, in 2008. Today they belong to the truely internationally operating young spaces - their artists attract serious collectors as well as urban hipsters; accordingly, their vernissages are exciting and quite entertaining events.

Since they expanded to Los Angeles in 2016 the two gallerinas focus even more on conceptional positions, presenting the art of individual artists or group shows under a thematic umbrella.

Last Night was no exception.

Sylvie Fleury showed a selection of recent works, some of them reminding you of her classics, like, when she showed oversized make-up cases made from Acrylic, but on wood and canvas (my favorite one: Bye, Bye, Undereye, you might guess, why).

I especially loved the exclusive collection of her polaroids: Get me the blurry Claudia Schiffer portrait or the funny mascara graffity, please!!, - affordable as they are.

After a good two hours of meeting and greeting, the fancy crowd moved to "Michelangelo", where you still get the best pizza in town, served under blinding neon illumination: long tables, no seating, simple house wines, all very authentic.

Like those pictures of the enchanting artist and her little branded handbag - next to a plate of delicous pasta bolognese. What could have been another subject for new polaroids to come. So far, at least, they got the blessing of instagram stories.
